Trends in higher education, quality assurance and implications for the university leadership

Brief description of activities conducted

The seminar included presentations on the activities of the Université virtuelle de Tunis, a report proposing to reform engineering studies, and a presentation on the value of the certification process.

The contribution of the HERE expert was a discussion on the impact on the university leadership of (1) international and European trends in higher education and (2) internal and external quality assurance developments.

Participants targeted 

The event was under the auspices of the Minister responsible for higher education, Prof. Chiheb Bouden, who opened the meeting. Mr Laurent Le Danois represented the European Delegation in Tunisia and Mr Christian Saelens, the Fédération Wallonie Bruxelles Délégation in Tunisia.

About 60 participants attended the seminar. They included university presidents and vice presidents, school directors and faculty deans, interested academics who are involved in the ERASMUS+ Office in Tunisia and staff from the ministry and other agencies working in higher education.

Main ‘take-aways’ from the perspective of the expert

The seminar showed the dynamism and commitment of the Tunisian higher education colleagues who are interested in making sure that the Tunisian higher education system evolves in line with international and European developments.
