The HERE Seminar Report “Research-based teaching and learning: from national and institutional policies to practice” aims to provide a comprehensive summary of the results of a pre-survey on this topic, as well as the presentations and discussions at the HERE Seminar that took place last 28-29 May 2018 in Podgorica, Montenegro.
During the event hosted by the University of Montenegro, HERE participants were provided the opportunity to explore learning and teaching to be re-integrated with research and the profound implications for funding, career structures, staff development, pedagogy, and course design. The seminar was a follow-up to a study visit to the University of Milan in 2017, in which HEREs were able to see how a research-intensive institution approached the concept of research-based teaching. It also set the scene for the study visit to King’s College London and the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) that was held in September which will be tightly focused on academic staff development practices.
It is expected that the HERE outcome reports published for each event will contribute to a better understanding of the SPHERE activities and highlight the topics that provide discussions, and support best practice exchange between different actors involved in the higher education reform.
