Upcoming TAM: Teaching Reforms for English as a Foreign Language in Higher Education in Israel as a stepping stone for internationalisation (Israel)

Dates:
Sunday, 28 October, 2018 to Monday, 29 October, 2018

The Israeli HERE work plan for the 2018-2020 aims to focus on three topics that are of highest relevance to the Israeli Higher Education sector: Internationalisation, innovation in teaching and learning and industry-academic cooperation. The upcoming TAM interlinks all three, as promoting English teaching as a foreign language is essential not only for encouraging internationalisation at home (IaH) and creating an international campus, but also  for introducing new approaches and methods in language teaching. In this seminar, participants will:

  • Understand challenges, rationales and policy instruments in the field of English Teaching and Teaching in English in the HE sector;
  • Be able to reflect on the relevance of good examples and European models for the Israeli HE system as a whole well, and also for institutions;
  • Be more equipped in implementing national reforms and goals in this field;
  • Understand necessary steps for HEIs to improve teaching in English/International programmes.

This seminar will take place on 28-29 October and welcome two experts: Prof. Dr. Marjolijn Verspoor, Professor of English Language and Chair of the English Department at the University of Groningen, The Netherlands and Prof. Prof Jos Beelen, Professor of Global Learning at The Hague University of Applied Sciences, where he leads a research group that explores  internationalisation home curricula in higher education.
