The Dutch organisation SPARK, a partner of EUA, is organising its annual IGNITE conference on 16 November 2016 in Amsterdam.
The programme includes sessions on 'universities in the centre of war' with the participation of the universities of Raqqa, Mosul and Tikrit. Due to the conflict in and around Syria these universities were shut down or taken over by IS. Now they are focused on continuing their education in exile and planning for their return and rebuilding. How to do this and what kind of support do they need?
The overall conference features more than 16 workshops and side events. This year's theme is 'Tackling Instability, Radicalisation and Forced Migration'. In particular, IGNITE will look at the role of entrepreneurship development and access to higher education in the MENA region.
Keynote speeches of IGNITE 2016 will be delivered a.o. by Sir Paul Collier (University of Oxford), Antoinia Norman (CEO, Branson Entrepreneurship Center) and Michel Botzung (IFC).
